At approximately 4:00 am GMT on January 4, 2009 in Conisholme, Lincolnshire, England, strange lights were reported by several dozen residents. Shortly after, a loud crash was heard as a 300 foot wind generator was badly damaged. Could the UFO have been responsible?
Russ Kellett of the Flying Saucer Bureau, a UFO investigating agengy, claimed that he received over 30 phone calls and emails of the strange lights. Among the witnesses to the UFO was a County Councilor named Robert Palmer, who report reported seeing a round white light hovering in the area. John Harrison, who is farmer in the region, said the object was huge and, “At first I thought it must have been a hole where the moon was shining through, but then I saw the tentacles. It looked just like an octopus.” Dorothy Willows sighting gives more credibility of tying the UFO sighting to the wind turbine damage. She was watching the lights from her home in Louth and says that they were low flying and heading toward the wind turbines.

The wind turbine farm is owned by Ecotricity and say they have no explanation for the wind turbine damage. One of the blades was torn off completely, another was badly damage. Each blade is a huge 20 meters (about 65 feet) in length. If an object were to have hit two of the blades, it would have to be about 150 to 200 feet wide (about 45 to 60 meters).
One possible explanation for the UFO was a fireworks display set up by Emily Bell, for her father’s 80th birthday party, just a couple of miles from the wind farm. This seems unlikely considering most people know what fireworks look like, and the volume of reports of the strange lights. However, there is no question that fireworks could not be responsible for the extensive damage to the wind turbine’s blade and rotor.
